She's said all along she wasn't drunk that night she was pulled over, but now the court has officially decided to back her up on that claim: Venus Velasquez, former City Council candidate, was declared not guilty of charges of drunken driving today by a local jury. It's too late to do any good in her campaign against Bruce Harrell, but at least she won't be tortured further with a public record smear on her good name.

refusal to submit to a breathalyzer test or blood sample test used to mean automatic conviction (assumed guilty).
Velasquez, you owe MADD $25,000. In lieu of your contribution, then you owe us 75 public appearances where you explain how it's wrong to drive while wasted, preferably in front of the victims of drunk drivers like you.
"But I don't have a drinking problem" ain't gonna fly with me, drunkie-bitch.
I don't want to smear anyone, but I don't believe she's contesting driving 50 mph down a city street and swerving over the center line after, by her own admission, having two drinks with dinner. At the time I believe she said something like, "I'm just a bad driver." If you drive that badly and you think it's not a problem, I'm skeptical that you know when your driving ability is impaired by drinks.
There's a book that came out recently called something like How We Drive and What it Says About Us. Sounds like VV could be a test case. If she works professionally the way she drives, I think I'm glad she's not on the council. Then again, maybe a few reckless legislators might shake things up in good ways. Who knows?
