Can't Miss It: Thursday

EVERYBODY SAY YEA: Did you see Yeasayer at that show they played with psych rockers Black Mountain last year? We did, and that night we became heartfelt believers in the pounding, global jungle magic of the foursome from Brooklyn. It's a smart idea to listen to their recorded material (here or here) to see if you like the direction they're headed, but to be honest, Yeasayer's got ten times more energy going for them at a live show; leave your inhibitions at home and lose yourself to the rhythm at Neumos for a few hours tonight. Guaranteed to at least pierce the fog of your fall blues.

TuningtheAir%20Season5_1164.jpgSTEP INSIDE MY CHAMBER: Tuning The Air is the project created by an 8-piece acoustic guitar ensemble (formed from the Seattle Circle) which performs in a circle around the audience so that as a listener, you're actually inside the composition, hearing the music shift and flow around you as the performers play with space, harmony, and rhythm. This sounds positively blissful. They do covers (with a twist) as well as original compositions, so you'll probably hear some familiar material in the 45-minute performance, but we imagine the best approach is to arrive prepared to purr in sync with the Seattle Circle's sonic vibrations. Better than therapy, folks. MvB loves them, too.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MATT BROWN: Perhaps your tastes run a little bit more towards the rock and roll? Matt Brown, music writer and fan extraordinaire, is having his birthday bash at Chop Suey tonight. On the excellent lineup: The Gatling Gees, Girl Trouble, the Camellias, and Anita Goodman. This should be a fun, crazy, classic night of the area's best rock you've never heard. Says Matt with regards to the Gatling Gees, "If seeing some kids from Renton interpret the Beatles circa Hamburg 1961 with the attitude and delivery of the Clash sounds like fun to you, I think you'll enjoy them."

Awesome. I will be down there, wearing a green Vancouver baseball cap (I had to go to Canada as soon as I moved here!). I will probably be ordering a tecate or a cheap midwest beer (I still can not understand the high prices people here pay for "fancy" beer).

PS I have it on good authority that at least one Seattlester will be present.

You can absolutely go even if you don't know Matt Brown, and it's encouraged!

Can we still go even if we dont know who Matt Brown is? Is anyone else going? I am new to the live music Seattle scenery (from El Paso and Austin TX) and would love to meet other Seattlest people down there.
