Six of Our Parking Meters Have Been Stolen

ParkingMeter.jpgThe scale of this crime--six heisted parking meters!--is what impresses us. Also the location, beneath the Viaduct, is kinda noir. We can imagine a lot of deals going down in the shadows. Not usually involving parking meters, though.

Someone cut the bolts off the bottom of the new electronic parking meters, say the police, who were notified when their parking meters stopped reporting electronically for duty. The thieves didn't get much besides change--and possibly credit card information and six meters worth $42,000 each.

"The pay stations were taken from the 300 block of Alaskan Way all the way up to the 1200 block of Alaskan Way South and Pike Street," says KCPQ, which also reports that (sorry, we can't help highlighting this) the thieves used a "truck with a wench."

Good lord! You'd think the legitimate media would know how to spell... or at least run their stories by a copy-editor.

John, you're right, I read that wrong! That does make a lot more sense. Not that $42,000 is anything to sneeze at.

I don't think either story says "each." I think it implies that all six were worth $42,000. That makes each worth $7,000. That seems a lot more reasonable.

Clearly the wench was there to create a distraction.
