The first update today on Alaska's ballot count: Now it's Begich by 2,374 votes. That's a 0.77% difference between Begich and Stevens, which would not trigger an automatic recount. Keep checking for updates here.

    As of the 5:30ish update, it's Begich 150,728 to Stevens 147,004, so Begich's win percentage is up to 1.18%. I read that actually Alaska doesn't have a mandatory recount provision; but if the difference is 0.5% or less and there is a recount, the state will pay for it.

    That'd be a serious burn if today's count ended the race today.
