Cubanos 21, Seahawks 19

This fall we are combining our love of the football and our dream of learning to cook by preparing a meal from the city of the Seahawks' opponent.

With all this talk of the first black president, we are forgetting the first black heavyweight champion to release his own grill. Our George Foreman cooking machine was able to press down, heat, and more importantly, leave those cool grill marks on our Cubanos.

That's convenience we can believe in.

The press-down is important because our recipe called for five slices of ham, four slices of Swiss cheese, pork, mustard, mayonnaise, and we added cilantro. The sandwich was overflowing with goodness.

However, the cheese we bought was not of the highest quality, and unfortunately dominated the taste of our sandwich.

Melted cheese is more than just the key ingredient to every meal at TGI Fridays, it also has a very powerful taste. With the amount of cheese used in the Cubano, it's important to get the tastiest Swiss cheese you can find.

By far the most complicated part of the meal was our Cuban Style Pork Roast.

Well, not really that complicated, just time-consuming. We mixed the orange juice, lime juice, garlic, regular old spices, and some spices we could only find at the Market’s El Mercado Latino. Then we dumped everything into the cooking bag.

Note about the cooking bag, select your size carefully. We ended up with a giant sack that easily could have doubled as a tarp to keep Rhode Island dry.

Once everything had been placed inside the bag, we cinched the hell out of it, let it marinate over night, cooked it for three hours (you will never question yourself more than right before you stick a plastic bag into an oven), removed it from the tropical marinade, and then cooked it for twenty additional minutes.

In the end, there was more fat than we had hoped. Isn't that always the way.

Fun side benefit to this project, we used the leftover orange juice to help battle our cold brought on by the change in the weather. You can say what you want about Florida, however, their oranges help us Northwesterners come cold season.

Do they even have cold and flu season down there?

In LA the coming winter is signified, not by temperatures only reaching the mid-seventies, but rather, when people start wearing scarves for no other reason then, well, it's November and that's a month when people wear scarves.

We're getting off topic and that is probably a good thing.

Speaking of off topic, two shows that we have been enjoying lately both take place in Miami.

First you have that Dexter guy; we're currently in the middle of season two. Great, great, great show.

Then there is Burn Notice with Bruce Campbell. Tim Matheson was on a recent episode, and we've noticed that whenever he makes an appearance on a show it always lists him as a special guest star. We find that odd because all we remember him from is Animal House.

Also, for some reason Matheson reminds us of Gary Cole. Maybe it's because they both played vice-presidents on The West Wing, and were both on Entourage this season. Yet, we couldn't picture Matheson as Lumbergh or Ricky Bobby's father.

Okay, now you're off topic, the bottom line is, don't be afraid of putting a cooking bag in your oven.

NEXT WEEK: Seahawks @ Chile Verde, 1pm
