Can't Miss It: Monday

viciousguns.jpgNON-FRENCH MUSIC: The High Dive hosts NadaMucho's New Music Mondays on, well, Mondays. The results are sometimes plenty interesting. Tonight, we're particularly interested in Canadian rock duo The Vicious Guns. Also, Look Closer and The Side Project.

FRENCH MUSIC: It's a slow Monday, what can we say? It may not have that stand-out, gotta-see-it, it's-only-tonight flavor, but the Djangomatics, the best local gypsy jazz outfit, have a long-running Monday night slot at Cafe Presse.

FRENCH FILM: All weekend we saw nothing but ads for Kung Fu Panda on television, and for some reason that kinda pisses us off. We don't why. Maybe it's Jack Black, who's just offensive on principle today. Maybe it's the mere thought of being subjected to it by little nieces and nephews at X-Mas. Whatever the case, it left us with a hankering to be all artsy, and there's no better place to do that tonight than at SIFF Cinema, where they're showing Paris Vu Par, a 1965 omnibus film featuring segments by six leading directors of the nouvelle vague exploring the neighborhoods of Paris.

If you go see Paris Vu Par, dont sit in the back. Who puts white subititles on white background?! And howcome everyone can read it but me?!

For my money Musette Trio is a better local gypsy jazz band. They play Thursday nights at the Pink Door.
