Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition, Nov. 7-9

HALF-NAKED BOOTY GIRLS: The 2 Live Crew outta Miami is at Nectar tonight, and you know what that means: half-naked booty girls, according to local emcee Wizdom. "I believe it," he told us with anticipation. The 2 Live Crew has been holding down the sexually explicit end of hiphop since the '80s. Warning: there might be juggalos present. Locals Mad Rad, Champagne Champagne, and Jay Barz open for this promisingly profane and colorful evening.

9 p.m., Friday // Nectar Lounge // $10adv // 21+

OPERA + TECHNOLOGY: John Adams wrote an opera about the atomic bomb ("Doctor Atomic"), and it's playing at the Met in New York this weekend. Why do you care, Seattle? Because for tomorrow only, you can experience the explosive (hah!) opera by purchasing tickets to see it broadcast live; all you have to do is sit back the comfort of your own AMC Pacific Place Cinema chair and take it all in.

10 a.m., Saturday // AMC Pacific Place // $22

VAMPIRE RABBITS: Because everything has to be re-made into a musical and nothing good can ever just stay in the same format as that in which it was birthed, and because change is inevitable just like death and taxes, Bunnicula The Musical exists and the Tacoma Musical Playhouse is producing it. If you get upset by the thought of vegetables losing their life-juice, you should stay away. Otherwise, this sounds kinda cute. Alternative: stay home and read the book.

2 p.m., Sunday // Tacoma Musical Playhouse // $15

Random tangent:

I couldn't find anything more than the front and back cover of that Civil Defense Manual from the Seattle Municipal Archives, but FYI I have the entire thing scanned over on my personal site, for anyone that might be interested.

It's really quite fascinating.

Great stuff, The_Tim

Can't believe how the 'sites that might be hit' pages basically read like adverts for why these would be so cool to hit. Also the "Enemies within" - including the National Committee to Abolish the Poll Tax and National Council of Negro Youth. They both seem pretty darn bad.
