You've all heard about the presidency, yes? We're also getting a new puppy!
A little closer to home, the governor's mansion looks to stay in Christine Gregoire's hands. Sorry, Dino, it would have been something having you and your third-party "GOP" to help us with change. But no dice. Brad Owen (D) remains Lt. Governor. Sam Reed ran as a Republican and he's still Secretary of State. McIntire (D) is leading Martin (R) for Treasurer. Sonntag (D) has a firm hold on Auditor, and Rob McKenna (R) has the AG's office all sewn up. Goldmark (D) and "Gropey" Sutherland (R) are in a tight race for Commissioner of Public Lands, and Terry Bergeson and Randy Dorn are neck and neck for Superintendent of Public Instruction. Mike Kreidler (D) is Insurance Commissioner for another four.
I-985, the "Let's pretend we're traffic planners" measure, went down to stinging defeat. ("No, We Won't!" says Sightline.) We say, Siddown, Tim! I-1000, the Death with Dignity measure, passed handily--and to show we're not against the elderly, we also passed I-1029, which requires long-term care providers to be certified. Every King County Charter amendment except for #7, the one to change the citizen initiative requirements, passed.
In Seattle, we're crazy about Pike Place Market and parks, so both funding propositions passed easily. And Sound Transit's Prop. 1, "There's a new train a-comin'--and it's light rail," was approved by similarly large margin.
Just one of the celebratory moments Stardust Cowboy captured for us in the Seattlest Flickr pool.
