Election Day on the Streets, Vol. 1

Yeah, that's how stoked Seattlest is today.

We woke at 4 a.m., turned on the TV, and worked a bit before heading to our volunteer shift. First, we had to stand in line at 400 Pike St. to turn in our absentee ballot. The line was long and stretched around the corner, but we were inside within 10 minutes of the polls opening. At the Baltic Room, where the Obama camp is gathering volunteers today, there were maybe about 50 people at 7 a.m. We have a conference call this morning, so we'll be heading back to help out closer to lunchtime. We'll keep you posted as the day unfolds.

PS—from Sarah Palin on Today Show right now: "I'm exercising my right to privacy and I'm not going to tell you how I voted." We think that means she voted for Obama. Smart lady.

**UPDATE: If you have had a notable experience at your polling place today, we want to hear about it. Give us your Election Day on the Streets updates in the comments.

I've visited St. Joe's, Meany, Mt. Zion and am now at TT Minor. Good turnout, as noted. 30-minute+ lines at Meany and Minor. No issues that I've seen or heard about -- though there was some vigorous ballot box shaking at Zion to get a stuck ballot to fall. Exciting :)

Headed for Pike/Pine and Broadway next!
