Get Out Tomorrow: EofDM @ Neumo's
So, for the life of us, we couldn't figure out how to write this preview. Tomorrow, one of our favorite bands, Eagles of Death Metal, is playing Neumo's, and we'd really like to figure out a good way to totally jazz you up, dear readers, about this show. But we're not sure where to start, other than to express our immense enthusiasm and to tell you, you should go.
Don't let the name frighten you; they sound like neither the Eagles nor death metal. One of the members, Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age (another band EofDM doesn't sound like) described it as "bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals." That's pretty good. It's sorta lo-fi indie garage rock with a sense of humor.
The core of the band is lead singer and songwriter Jesse "the Devil" Hughes, who played no small part in the moustache craze that swept the indie scene a couple years ago. Hughes was an odd-ball high school acquaintance of Josh Homme, of Screaming Trees (briefly), Kyuss, and now Queens of the Stone Age. Homme started supporting Hughes's songwriting and recording efforts in the late 1990s and by 2003 EofDM released their first album to enthusiastic reviews. (Although Homme is a major contributor to the albums, he doesn't tour with the band.)
Probably most of you have heard their music before—advertisers can't stop using their songs. They just released their third album yesterday, Heart On, but for the unitiated, we'd recommend you check out their first, Peace, Love, Death Metal. It's still their best, most diverse, most danceable record.
But ask anyone who's seen them live and you'll definitely hear a story about how they're one of the funnest live bands working today. And this show is the first time since we started going to see them in Seattle that they've been the headliner. (They've opened for Queens of the Stone Age, Joan Jett, Peaches, and had a terrible mid-day slot at Endfest a couple years ago.) So go buy your tickets for tomorrow for a good time: $17.50 advance, currently still available.
