Can't Miss It: Monday
SEATTLEST HAPPY HOUR: Ah, that magical day of the month is here again, when you can sojourn to Moe Bar for $2 wells and happy hour beer specials and chat it up with you favorite Seattlest contributers. This week MvB regales us with his tales of fantastical Iceland, the land without money, and Jeremy clues us in to how nice a job UNESCO does rebuilding your city in 15 years (hint: not a very good one).
5 p.m. - 8 p.m. // Moe Bar, 925 E. Pike // 21+
GOAT BOY!: Every year it seems someone we know falls in love with the Mountain Goats for the first time. It's a quick affair that soon sours, but the initial lust is intense. John Darnielle's been writing his soul-searching avant-folk for quite some time now, and the results are decidedly mixed. We got suckered in to Tallahassee a few years ago, only to have our illusions shattered by actually seeing the Goats play a show. Ah well, maybe it was just a bad gig for them.
8 p.m. // Showbox/Market, 1426 First Ave. // $20 DOS // all ages, bar w/ID
HOUSING CRISIS DISCUSSION: We just got back to the US after two weeks overseas and damn! What did you people do while we were gone? What started out as a subprime lending crisis has crushed the global economy. But important thing to remember--this is still a housing crisis, with plenty of people sweating bullets, waiting to see if they can save their homes. Tonight, Town Hall Seattle and CityClub present a conversation with Steve Preston, Secretary of HUD, about what's being done to actually help people out.
6 - 7:30 p.m. // Town Hall Seattle, Eighth & Seneca // $5
