Can't Miss It: Wednesday
HIS NAME IS SPIEGELMAN: Maus-keteer Art Spiegelman has a new graphic memoir out, Breakdowns: A Portrait of the Artist as a Young %@&*! The book "traces the artist’s evolution from a MAD-comics obsessed boy, to a neurotic adult examining the effect of his parents’ memories of Auschwitz on his own son." He's at Town Hall for what you'd hope is a multimedia "reading," otherwise it seems like, you know, the graphic part would be lost in translation.
7:30 p.m. // Town Hall, upstairs // $5
AUSSIE ELECTROPOP: It's a doubleshot of down-under '80s electroliciousness. (Wow. We typed that and the world didn't come to an end. Huh.) Cut Copy and dj duo The Presets are here, and things are gonna get bouncy. The Pitchforkers say Cut Copy's latest is "hugely enjoyable," while The Presets Apocalypso is said to range from "expansive, emotive techno, to future pagan house and choral space funk." Srsly.
8:00 p.m. doors // Showbox at the Market // $18, all ages
GET HAPPY WITH MIKE LEIGH: Brit cult-favorite director Mike Leigh is theoretically in town tonight for a benefit showing of Happy-Go-Lucky at SIFF Cinema. From the preview, we can tell you it's about a really cheerful young woman who's full of happy pride and won't let the world grind her down. Previews being mendacious pieces of crap, it's probably not about that at all. If you're anti-happy, try Blood Simple at Central Cinema instead.
8:00 p.m. // SIFF Cinema // $12
