A Local We're Totes Crushing On

We've had a crush on Maria Cantwell for some time. First of all, her suits are always incredible. Her hair is always impeccably in place. She's kind of a badass when it comes to the environment and other important issues. We loved her even more when she came out in full support of Hillary. Even though that didn't work out so well, we admire her gumption for voting against last week's $700 billion bailout package, saying she's not interested in "turning the keys of the U.S. Treasury over to the private sector." It was a complicated thing to vote yay or nay on, given all the implications, and she was one of only nine democrats to say no thanks. (She sits on the finance committee, so this is more her area than it is, say, that of Mr. Maverick McCain.) Sometimes the devil really is in the details, and her speech was well played. Cheers to Senator Cantwell!

  • Hey Bill... guess who I contract with?.... I can't announce it but, yeah.... I getchu.

Her suits ARE fabulous. So was that speech!

well, bill, if you watch her speech, you'll see that she wrote a plan that she vows to continue to work on. so it's not like she's doing nothing. quite the contrary.

Since she sits on the finance committee, shouldn't she have done something to prevent this crisis. She's a horrible do-nothing senator - a Democraitc version of Santorum.

To top this off, she was formerly the head of Real Networks which has always produced the most shiteous media player out there. God, Realplayer should be reason enough not to vote for her.

  • Sorry, but my heart and soul belong to Murray. She can do no wrong in my eyes.

Concede on the suit issue though. But millionaire's can get much better suits than a PTA member.

i'd still put my money on cantwell. and in a fist fight between cantwell's suits and murray's suits...i don't even need to finish that sentence. i think we all know who would win there.

  • MvB - there's no denying the suits and power, but if I had to put my money down on a fair or dirty congressional fist fight between these two- Murray has all my cash.

The way I see it, this is like a Reign Man/Glove team-up, Troy: two people who make each other better players. Patty Murray works on the populist, person-in-the-street concerns and "bringin' home the bacon!" as Calabro would say, while Maria Cantwell freelances, smacking around Ted Stevens or taking a cold-eyed look at FISA. And, you have to admit, the woman knows how to wear a suit.

  • I have issues with Cantwell.

She is a show horse more than a work horse, which isn't that strange in D.C., except our other (great) Senator works harder than any other Senator (in my humble opinion), so the differences are more apparent.

She tends to only "work" (I mean, not vote party lines) during the year before her re-election bids. But she's not terribly dangerous either. I just don't look at her as a flagship, to that I look at the O-S-M (Original Soccer Mom).

    Word, sister!
