Football Friday: What's Your "Hardest Hit" Memory? Edition

Say "New York Giants" to most Seahawk fans, and the conversation will turn to the 2005 OT game at Qwest Field, where the Giants missed three field goals, including two in overtime, and the Hawks prevailed 24-21. Kicker Jay Feely had an epic fail that day, and his holder, punter Jeff Feagles, had the best seat in the house as the trainwreck unfolded.

Feagles punted for the Seahawks from 1998 until 2002. In one of the last games of the 2002 season, Feagles took what Seattlest thinks is the hardest hit in the history of Qwest Field. Eagles' end N.D. Kalu was literally unblocked on a Seahawks punt attempt and he exploded into the defenseless Feagles, leaving both sidelines and the entire stadium aghast as the punter crumpled to the field. Feagles lay on the field for minutes, and left the field for x-rays.

A few weeks later, Feagles took the first plane out of town, heading to the Giants in search of better pay and even better blocking schemes. The punter was set to retire after the 2006 season, but was coaxed back and won a Super Bowl ring last year. Feagles is the NFL's Ironman, having played in 323 consecutive regular season games and will likely extend that record this weekend.

So tell us Seattle, what the hardest hit you've seen?

(schedule and picks after the jump!)

Saturday:
Huskies at Arizona (4:30 p.m., Versus, 950AM)
It's family weekend in Tucson, and the Dawgs will have seen enough of the Stoops family when this one is over.
Prediction: Cats 24, Dogs 13

WSU at UCLA (7:15 p.m. FSN, 1090AM)
The Cougs have one win. The Bruins have one win. The Bruins have Rick Neuheisel. We hate Rick Neuheisel. Works for us.
Prediction: Cougs 17, Uclans 14

Sunday:
Seahawks at Giants (7:15 p.m. FSN, 1090AM)
Both teams were banged up and the bye week couldn't have come at a better time. The Hawks get the bulk of their receiving corps back, and Tatupu and Trufant will be more active with their hand injuries healing up. But Holmgren teams are bad on the road.
Prediction: Giants 24 Seahawks 20

Don't like football? The Seattle Thunderbirds host the Spokane Chiefs Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Kent Event Center. Who owns the Chiefs anyway?

Glad to see the sports haters haven't left...

Fredd Young's hit on a Raiders' punt returner, probably in Young's rookie year of '84 when he was playing special teams. Snapped the guy's head back, it was pretty vicious. No YouTube, sadly.

Guard was ALWAYS my favorite position in high school. You can hide behind the tackles and completely obliterate someone without them knowing what happened. Especially when pulling or blocking a screen.

Wahle is awesome at playing until the whistle, and he gets some great hits in as the play moves away from the line. His intensity is feeding the other guys, I think.

In the Hawks first game of the season, a replay showed Mike Wahle absolutely destroying one of the Bills defensive tackles.

It was noteworthy to me, as you rarely will see a replay of a guard killing someone on a block, and you could tell that Wahle had something to prove.

I think the Willie William hit might be in the first 15 seconds of this clip.

Man, some of these are just brutal. Awesome, but brutal.

The lesson here is that we can all help bulk up every post on seattlest from zero to hero by leaving a slightly incendiary challenge message that no one is likely to post!

Largent on Atwater, mostly because of the hit Atwater delivered on Larget earlier in the season (payback). Also because Largent was like 5'10'', 180.

  • BigGreenFrank

Two Seahawk ones immediately come to mind.

Tatupu on Brad Goings (?), NFC Championship Game.

Steve Largent on Steve Atwater(?) random game from the 80s.

  • jwhieger

Willie William absolutely destroyed a Raiders receiver (Jett?) I think in the final season at the Kingdome.

I will now search for the youtube if it exists.

PS- I saw Hawks Fans with the 12th Man flag on the Today show with Matt Lauer. Just saying...

Accusing those with whom you disagree of being a "troll" is the last redoubt of the incompetent (and, frankly, a rather rude thing to do).

I posed a legitimate question, the answer to which I'm curious to know. Nothing wrong with that. Galloping in to insult everyone who visits your site is a consumer marketing strategy destined to fail.

  • Audrey

Oh Zeron, how cute. You're my new favorite troll!

I wonder if anyone will actually respond to this question? (cue tumbleweeds)
