Get Rich Quick (Or At Least Sit Next to Someone Who Has)

We've all thought about it. You've got this really great idea and you are sure it would make millions. Only you're not sure how to go from that sticky note you jotted the idea on three months ago to actually starting to build a real live business. Plus there's the whole family/rent/mortgage/band thing that sucks up your time. And your job.

Well, tonight, you can rub elbows with people just like you who had a simple idea but actually took the next step and turned it into a bazillion dollars (without robbing a bank) or followed their passion, or created a business more suitable to their lifestyles. The Northwest Entrepreneur Network is hosting an Entrepreneur's Think Tank tonight at Seattle University's Shaffer Auditorium in the A.A. Lemeiux Library. Three guest speakers will chat informally about what it was like to actually sit down in a cafe or at the kitchen table and start their own business. Kevin Merritt, founder of Blist, rounds out a great lineup. Discussion starts at 7:30 p.m, with large portions devoted to Q&A.

We've been to a ton of these types of events and this one is usually the most interesting/informative/entertaining. And best of all it's free! Plus, the last one of these we attended, one of the guest speakers was Zander Nosler, who started Coffee Equipment Co. (Clover!) in a Ballard garage a few years earlier. A few weeks after speaking at the NWEN Think Tank this spring, the Green Mermaid came calling and bought him out, making him an instant zillionaire! He'll probably be there tonight, desperate to find another way out of working for the Dunder Mifflin of coffee. And the cycle continues.

The word 'executive' never crossed my mind in the context of this post or this event.

If you type the word 'work' into the Seattlest Flickr pool, you get either pretty pictures of fireworks OR a bunch of shots like these, which could start a whole discussion about what does someone look like when they are working in the 21st Century.

thoughts behind matching the picture to the post, please?

is it a "dig" (sorry) about how the workers get dirty and the executives rich?
