Thanks for the heads up about the rental status of Liquor stores. That liquor store has been on the corner of 45th and Stone Way my entire life, so I assumed it was state property. But yes! yes! yes! about talking to the WA state government about the archaic liquor laws in this state. When I went off to college in California and went to the grocery store for the first time, I totally freaked out. Let me tell you, there are few things more wonderful than using your Safeway Select card to get a really good deal on alcohol. And don't even get me started on Costco in California...

Actually, as far as I know, the state doesn't own the buildings where their liquor stores operate. They rent them just like any other business might. So what Archie McPhee just bought was a building up for sale by a private owner. The fact that it is/was a liquor store has nothing to do with it. However I agree with Abbey and think it is worth having words with the state. However not about the relocation of a single liquor store, but about an archaic system that prevents us from being able to buy booze at the grocery store like one can do in so many other states.

Take it up with the State boys, not Archie McPhee's! I'm sure it was up to the good old Washington government to sell the property, since it's the gov. in this state that runs the few inconvenient liquor stores they sustain us with.

Seriously. Where was the protest for the liquor store? I will now have to trek to University Village for my booze. Won't somebody think of the children alcohol needing adults? Join me at 9:00 PM tonight with picket signs.
