Weekend Sports Wrap-up

It could be worse. Somehow. We guess SoDo could have been swallowed up in a giant sinkhole. Or the Mariners could keep playing for another three months. Thankfully, their season ended Sunday, bumbling to a 61-101 record, and our long civic nightmare appears to be over, or at least delayed for a few months.
Huskies: When the one superstar athlete on your team is less healthy than a Spinal Tap drummer, calamity is always lurking. Jake Locker, the messianic QB, appears to be out for the season after breaking his hand in the Huskies' 35-28 home loss to the Stanford Cardinal. At this point in the season, after a string of bad luck and gaffes on the field, head coach Tyrone Willingham should be on the lookout someone swapping the team's water bottles with dribble cups and getting pantsed on the sideline. It's gotten that bad. Oh, and the team, at 0-4, hasn't been entirely competitive either.
Cougars: Using vice-presidential logic, we should have expected the Cougs to dominate the Oregon Ducks since our states share a border. And that would be wrong. The Ducks, coming off a humiliating loss at home, buried WSU from the get-go, delivering a 63-14 pounding in Pullman, and coming amazingly close to our 64-7 prediction. Believe it or not, the Cougs (1-4) actually look much improved over their early-season form.
Sounders: The Sounders USL franchise came to a close over the weekend, as the team lost a home-and-home playoff series to the Montreal Impact 4-3. After winning a chippy home match 2-1 on Friday, the Sounders fell 3-1 to the Montreal Impact Sunday. The USL Sounders most likely will cease operation as the MLS team of the same name begins play less than six months from now.
