Mariners Strasburg Number at Two

Mariners%20Stephen%20Strasburg.jpg1986 is probably the most overlooked Mariner season of all time. They were able to turn the league's worst record into number one pick Ken Griffey Jr. Their bottom of the barrel effort in 1992 led to Alex Rodriguez.

Could 2008's shit-covered season lead to the next baseball phenom?

With three games to play, the Mariners are locked in a tight race with the Washington Nationals for the much-hyped college pitcher Stephen Strasburg.

A few weeks ago it looked like the Nats had the worst record in baseball all wrapped up, however, the M's have lost 14 of 15, and put themselves in the driver's seat.

Since it's all about the future for the Mariners, might we suggest rooting for the A's and against the Phillies this weekend?

Following last night's loss and the Nationals' rainout, the Mariners magic number to clinch baseball's worst record is two. If the two teams finish with the same record, Washington will get the pick because they had a worse record last season.

Worst or second-worst record in baseball, the 2008 Seattle Mariners have become the first team in baseball history with a payroll over one hundred million and one hundred losses. A true testament to the genius and baseball know-how of team president Chuck Armstrong and CEO Howard Lincoln.
