Sera Cahoone's Gear Stolen, Benefit Planned

There's a banjo joke that talks about someone breaking into the banjo player's car and leaving a second banjo in the back seat. We have to say that's what entered our mind when we first heard that local multi-instrumentalist Jeff Fielder—on tour now with Sera Cahoone—had his banjo stolen. Then we immediately thought about how a good banjo is a darn expensive instrument. So are a good Dobro and a good guitar (Cahoone's guitar was also swiped).

In fact, a fund has been set up to benefit Fielder, with a fundraising goal of $3,000 to help him replace his stolen instruments. You can donate directly, or attend a benefit at the Station Bistro in Ballard, which will include live music by more than 10 artists, a raffle, auction, and Fielder look-alike contest. Here's a photo for your reference.

Fielder is an exceptional instrumentalist, and there's no reason the man should go without his instruments. Unfortunately, stolen gear tends to be one of those things that happens far too frequently to touring musicians. We'll never understand why, but hopefully the person(s) who broke into Cahoone's van really needed some country instruments. They better be having one hell of a picking party. Meanwhile, head on out to Ballard next week and help a guy out.
