Neighborhood News and Local Blog Roundup

"[Urban Decay]" by Seattlest Flickr Photographer lempelziv
- West Seattle Blog has the update on Nickelsville and the encampment's scheduled ouster.
- Losing your glasses sucks. Losing your glasses on the bus, and knowing they will be donated to someone in need of glasses but unable to afford them, sucks slightly less.
- Ooh this sounds delicious and delightful. MyBallard announces 2009's "Dinner and Movie" series, with dinner courtesy of Volterra paired with some truly classic food films.
- HorsesAss has something to say about John McCain's so-called halting of campaign activities.
- We have a thing for vintage photos, especially of places we know well now. So we're loving the Central District News' post about the old brick building at 23rd and Cherry.

What about the Rainier Valley Post? (http://rainiervalleypost.blogspot.com/)
Seattleist- Should be Seattle-elitist, coverage for the wealthy living north of I-90

I link to the Rainier Valley Post frequently in my neighborhood news roundup, as well as Blogging Georgetown, White Center Blog, Mid-Beacon Hill, and Captain Columbia City when it still posted regularly.
Yesterday, the Rainier Valley Post posted two stories, neither of which I chose to link to for this particular Roundup. I don't believe that makes me an elitist.

To be fair, most of Seattle IS north of I-90.

Thanks for the love, seatown22. Way to represent.
Abbey does indeed link to The Post frequently and we adore her for that.
Although it's probably also fair to point out that of the three stories RVP posted yesterday, the first covered an increasingly dangerous gang war playing out in the Othello neighborhood, where this editor happens to live, and that it detailed the third shooting in the area in as many weeks, which is sort of big news, albeit not so glamorous. I can't let my kids play in the front yard anymore for a while, the back either since I live on a corner lot, and we've had to talk about what bullets sound like and what to do when you hear them, which sucks...
The second story wasn't worth mentioning unless of course you were the poor folks involved in that Beacon Hill car accident. :-(
And the third, I just have to boast for a minute and say, was quite possibly one of the best things I've ever written.* So WTF, Abbey?!
Just kidding, dear. You're the best and The Post loves you and Seattlest, too.

It was a tremendous post yesterday RVP!
And local violence is getting worse. In my neighborhood I've heard more gunshots in the last three months, than I have in the last three years combined. I could link or report multiple stories daily about gun/gang/stabbing violence and deaths, but somedays I can't just get myself to do it. Sadly, in fact, I could strictly cover local shootings/senseless deaths and write my three stories a day.
As always, I thoroughly enjoy reading and linking to the Rainier Valley Post. Thanks so much for the compliments/feedback regarding neighborhood news and keep up the great work!!

@seatown22: stay tuned (or not, no pressure) for more local blog activity on Seattlest. We're hoping to have a few editors guest star, and have a chance to talk about the kind of hot topics that RVP mentions in her comment.
