Mmmmmm....Soup

We dream of soup like this. Photo Courtesy of Seattlest Flickr photographer nikchick.
While Seattlest's Katelyn has a healthy obsession for the perfect sandwich, we have similar devotion to finding the most delicious fall soup. In fact, the one saving grace of the imminent fall and rainy days is that it is soup weather. When it starts to rain in Seattle, our thoughts turn to soups of all kinds--pho, creamy butternut squash, Cafe Presse's soup of the moment, anything and everything on Hopvine's soup list, and the old delicious standard: a bowl of tomato soup and grilled cheese. We can't wait for October, when the already-mentioned beloved nectar that is Hopvine's home-made soups becomes available in the Southwest Pumpkin variety...a soup which we may be guilty of having dreamt of.
With the coming seven nine months of the rainy season, there are at least 200 days for us to discover Seattle's best soup. So, what is it, Seattlest readers? What's the soup that soothes your soul, warms your toes, and dries you from the inside out? We are open to recommendations of home-made recipes as well as soup we can get out and about in Seattle.

All last winter I kept meaning to try some of Volunteer Park Café's Chicken Noodle Soup with Dumplings--this year I will not fail!

Our house makes a mean pot of soup, if I do say so myself! Creamed parsnip and turnip soup: sounds gross, tastes DELICIOUS. And I'm recalling a white bean soup with a swirl of roasted red pepper puree that was a fave. I can send recipes upon request.

I have to sing a note of praise for the chicken & rice soup down at Jalisco. Flavorful without being salty and just spicy enough to fend off any cold. And cheap! I stop there on my way home from work, grab a bowl to go and I am a happy, happy man.

Jesse, I was gonna suggest you try the hamhock on red cabbage at Feierabend, but it's off the menu now. You're screwed.

Oooh -- these all sound like yummy options. I'm really fond of Chicken and Dumplings so I will have to seek that one out asap.
For lunch I had a big bowl of Butternut Squash soup, just some of the organic stuff you get from a box. But with a little sea salt and fresh ground paper...delicious!
