Can't Miss It: Tuesday
ROOTS MUSIC IN BALLARD!?: Yeah, we know this happens pretty much every night, but there's a good batch of bands at the Tractor tonight. Local singer-songwriter outfits Husbands Love Your Wives and Jack Wilson & The Wife Stealers open a bill for the wonderful and interesting anti-folk fabulousness of Elliot Brood from north of the border (and east a bit).
9 p.m. // Tractor Tavern // $8

HIPPIE WOO-WOO TALK: (We can call it that because we've been called both hippie and woo-woo recently, and this is a talk we'd be interested in.) Nobel Prize-winning physicist Frank Wilczek has written a book called The Lightness of Being (not to be confused with Milan Kundera's lauded novel by almost the same title). He'll be discussing it at Town Hall tonight. The gist: space is material and matter is "a subtle pattern of disturbance in that material." We are adding this book to our queue immediately after this entry.
7:30 p.m. // Town Hall // $5
A LOCAL SPORTS TEAM THAT WINS!: Contrary to the discussion on Slog yesterday about how the WNBA is boring and women shouldn't be playing basketball, we would like to seriously vouch for our local team. Their games are exciting. In fact, on Friday, we clenched our fists and stood up and screamed at the television in a local bar with a crowd of others as the Storm embarked on game one of the three-game series they close out tonight. To sum up: the Storm are #2, the Sparks are #3, and the series is tied. Tonight will be the decider. This is the playoffs, y'all, and the Storm are kicking ass even with LJ on the bench. Get thee to the Key and cheer for a local team that could bring us a championship (again)!
6 p.m. // Key Arena // $12-775
