Aside from numerous, friendly, outdoor kitties, the other thing we immediately noticed upon moving into Lower East Ballard was trucks: lots and lots of older pickup trucks. Most of the beasties are rustier, denty-er, and more well-worn than this truck, but each one is just as lovely. (Appropriate, then, that this photograph was taken on 120 format film, a classy, though rougher, older technology in and of itself.) We love to scritch each and every one behind the ears; sometimes they roll over and expose their cute little bellies... and their little carburetors purr. After you're out walking and have taken in your neighborhood's eccentricities, be sure to haul them over to the Seattlest Flickr pool. Thanks for sharing!

fwiw, if you have your own kitties, might i suggest keeping them indoors - as a 3 year resident of the 'hood immediately to the east ("phinney ridge" by the sea city clerk's maps at that same site) i have recently witnessed my next door neighbours burying both of their cats due to recent raccoon attacks - they've posted signs on a handful of utility poles about it.

my kittens (who are, in fact, 2 years old) stay indoors all the time...and this is one of the reasons why. i love them too much to release them out to where they could face people racing up and down our street at 30+ mph (despite the chicanes that are meant to slow them down,) raccoons, possums, dogs, and disease.

just my urban cat lovin' maternal instinct...
