Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition, Sept. 19-21

DRINK FOR URBAN ART: The second Northwest location of Upper Playground, a San Francisco-based urban art and clothing store, opens this weekend--and there's a swanky cocktail party/gallery viewing at Chapel on Saturday night to celebrate. The clothing and accessories at Upper Playground are the epitome of dope, but what we're really into is the art. For a sample, check out these poster prints of various artists' renderings of Obama, going for $200 a piece. We're particularly fond of this one by Mear One, an artist who will be doing a "live painting" at the Chapel party.

9 p.m. - 2 a.m., Saturday // Chapel Bar, Melrose & Pine // Free // 21+

YOU JUST ASK THE LONELEH: Journey, Heart (!!) and Cheap Trick bring their collective 80s awesomeness to White River Amphitheatre tonight. Heart promises to be even greater than usual, as we're smack dab in the middle of election season. And there's never a bad time for Journey and Cheap Trick, people! Typically we shy away from stadium or amphitheatre shows, but these three are worth it--and they were meant to be heard en masse. Now, if the weather will just hold out for one more night...

7 p.m., Friday // White River Amphitheatre, Auburn // $27.50-$125

EAT...MY...SHORTS: It's 80s movie trivia night at Neptune Coffee, brought to you by Scarecrow Video. Prizes include beer and the holy trinity of 80s teen movies (Breakfast Club, Weird Science , and Sixteen Candles....duh); better yet, for paying your entrance fee, you get the prize of contributing $5 to tutoring center 826 Seattle. Game so very on!

8 p.m. - 10 p.m., Friday // Neptune Coffee, 8415 Greenwood Ave N // $5

COWS AND CARRIE: Carrie Underwood will perform at the Puyallup Fair this weekend as the Fair wraps up another lucrative year of giant pumpkins, rickety rollercoasters, and sand/glass doodads at the Fairgrounds. Better get down there, and be sure to stop by the Rotary trailer and buy a Polish from Seattlest's grandpa! (Or are they doing scones this year?)

Carrie Underwood // 7:30 p.m., Friday // Puyallup Fair // $50-$75
Puyallup Fair // 10 a.m. - 11 p.m., Fri. - Sat. // Puyallup Fairgrounds // $10 + parking $$

Update: The Rotarians are not doing a trailer this year, at least my grandfather's group isn't, because it was getting too hard to staff with volunteers. As my father said, "the end of an era?"
