Can't Miss It: Thursday
COMMON SENSE: The one, the only Common is in town tonight at Showbox SoDo! Yes, we avoid SoDo, but we don't avoid good rap--and neither should you. It's bracing! To prepare, put on one of Common's eight albums (try Be) and click through to the Seattle Times' interview with the hiphop royal. Also on the bill: the fast-becoming-ubiquitous N*E*R*D (here's a good MTV intro to the production team).
8 p.m. // Showbox SoDo, // $40 online // All Ages
THE MEDIA DISCUSSES THE MEDIA: Eat Sleep Publish is having a roundtable discussion, salon-style, at the McLeod Residence with special guest speakers like UW digital media prof Kathy Gills and the P-I's first online reporter Monica Guzman. The topic? "There is no business model that will support a print daily product." Ready. Set. Discuss! (Well, first you need to sign up here so you're assured a spot at the table.)
6:30-8:30 p.m. // McLeod Residence, 2209 2nd Ave // free, with RSVP // 21+ (there's a hosted bar tab!)
LET'S TALK ABOUT CHILDREN WHO BREED: Spring Awakening is a musical about teens (really young teens) who have sex. Sex is always a controversial topic, and according to a press release, Roosevelt High School is hosting a community conversation about the musical and its themes for interested locals. A diverse group of people are participating in the discussion, including members of the theatre community and students and teachers from Seattle schools. Two cast members from Spring Awakening will also be on hand to lend their perspective.
7:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. // Roosevelt High School, 1410 NE 66th St // Free // All Ages
