Weekend Music
Tonight's the all-ages Red Bull Big Tune Battle at Neumo's. It's a big hiphop competition (twelve producers are picked to compete, whittled down from the eighty who applied from all over the Northwest and even northern California), and the regional showdown for one of the only legit national beat battles. This year's featured guests are Detroit's Black Milk and Elzhi.
It's also the surprisingly sold-out Rancid and Less Than Jake show at the Showbox SoDo. Apparently, the latter is big in Europe. Here they are in Belgium:
Also on tap tonight: Spearsfest, a Britney cover night at the Mars Bar, and an all-ages laser show at Pacific Science Center for Of Montreal's new album Skeletal Lamping, not out until next month. Check out new tracks "Id Engager" [mp3] and "Nonpareil of Favor" [mp3] before taking your hallucinogens.
Tomorrow night, Janeane Garofalo (fresh off tonight's appearance on the Real Time panel) will perform her rescheduled show at the Showbox. There's also the multi-culti dance party care of Balkan Beat Box at Neumo's.
The Girls, who are very difficult to YouTube, celebrate their CD release at King Cobra, while Brooklyn singer-songwriter Jennifer O'Connor opens for Damien Jurado at the Triple Door.
