Football Friday: Artie Fufkin Edition

"Team Colors," by Seattlest Flickr contributor SlightlyNorth
We try to stay positive. We really do. But with our local football teams winless this season, Blayne getting bounced off Project Runway and a certifiable jackass poised to head for the White House (again), we've been dealing with a little self-doubt this week. And listening to lots of Pink Floyd.
Inspirational Clip of the Week
Keep your chin up Seattle. The sun is shining. The grass is green. It could be worse. We could be working for Polymer Records.
This weekend:
WSU at Baylor (5:30 Friday in Waco, FSN) Here are the facts: The Cougs are 0-2 after getting demolished by Cal last weekend. Baylor has actually won a game this year. The Cougs are on the road. There is a hurricane bearing down on Texas. Add it all up, and the Cougs are favored?? Either this game is fixed or...well, it's gotta be fixed. Considering how some Washingtonians get all sheepish in the face of a little rain, Seattlest doesn't see the Cougs bucking up in the face of a Category 3 storm.
Prediction: Branch Davidians 24, Cats 10
Huskies vs Oklahoma (4:45 Saturday at Husky Stadium, ESPN, 950 KJR) After losing to BYU last week on a controversial play, the Huskies welcome Oklahoma to Montlake. The Sooners are full of Pac-10 hate, after getting some shabby calls when visiting Oregon last year. This one won't be close.
Prediction: Sonic Stealers 44, Dougs 3
Seahawks vs 49ers (1:05 Sunday at Qwest Field, FOX) After a preseason filled with injuries, the team lost Nate Burleson and Rob Sims for the season after picking up injuries in the Buffalo debacle. The Hawks are a seriously wounded animal. And Seattlest doesn't need to tell you what happens when you corner a sick dog. (Well, actually our dog would just give us that cute look then curl up and sleep it off.) But, these guys are professionals and we expect the Hawks to rebound.
Prediction: Holmgrens 28, Cats 10
Don't like football? The Storm play the Atlanta Dream tonight at the Key. Tip-off: 7:00 p.m.

Would've appreciated a spoiler alert (or just keeping mum) on the Project Runway news. Some of us have TiVos, mmmkay?

In fairness to Brad, there are stories in both the Seattle Times and P-I today about Blayne getting the boot. You TiVo monkeys either gotta learn to live in the present or stay in a bubble and off the internets.

Enormous, gigantic co-sign towards MvB. It's a spoiler if someone leaks the results before the show airs; it's a personal scheduling misfortune if people don't get to watch it at that time and then hear about the results in other media. And I've been there, so I know it's a sad day, Audrey :(

When I saw the headline about football on Friday I thought we might get some insight into the local high school teams. I went to my first high school football game since high school last fall based on the Seattlest rundown on the happenings. It can be a fun way to mix up a fall Friday night-and I'm not much of a football fan, so knowing something about the teams makes it more fun to check out. And the people watching is great.

Anti-co-sign on you both. And though I do attempt to avoid the news, I had already heard the outcome, based on everybody (the Times, Slog, etc.) dropping the ball on this one. Spoiler alerts are now standard operating procedure, even if it involves someone local. Bitches best recognize.

As an add-on to meegan's comment: if anyone wants more high school football news, I heartily recommend Seth's spoutings over at the Sports Northwest blog. No one loves high school sports more than he.
