Get Out: Common Market's CD Release Party Tonight

commonmarket%20flyer.jpgSeattlest listens to a lot of local hiphop, and after awhile most of it starts to sound the same, save a few favorite groups (The Saturday Knights, Cancer Rising, and Grayskul, to name a few). Enter the latest two albums from Seattle hiphop staples Sabzi and Ra Scion. When their powers combine, they are Common Market; they're fighting on our planet's side to take (mind) pollution down to zero, with intricate, erudite-bordering-on-incomprehensibly thick lyrical miracle projects with the themes of rural Kentucky and the tobacco industry.

No one else is rapping about farming in quite this way, that's for sure, so Common Market really stands out; not only is the content fresh and interesting, but Sabzi's beats have been improving by leaps and bounds in the past few years and there are some gorgeous new ones to revel in. A few months ago, CM released Black Patch War; it was a short concept album that left fans hungry for the promised full-length, Tobacco Road.

Tonight, Tobacco Road is officially unleashed upon the world.

We have it on good authority that in accordance with the prophecies, this will be no average cd release show. Common Market's been planning and preparing quite the affair. They've worked closely with other producers to create a ceremony to match the intricacy of Tobacco Road; we've been promised "chapters" (?!!), a mixed-genre line-up including the rock/country/sexpot shenanigansters Thee Emergency, Feral Children, and the Tallboys, and--yes, there's more--the Total Experience Gospel Choir will be performing with Common Market during their set.

A lavish affair indeed, with high notes of Kentucky-fried country music and strong underpinnings of Seattle gritty rock, all pointing towards Common Market's latest creation.

Should be a doozy!
