Can't Miss It: Thursday
WHO WILL SAVE YOUR SOUL?: Wow, Seattlest really loved that song when Jewel first came out back in '96. When we went to Lilith Fair, Jewel's set was the one we thought we'd skip and go have dinner during. Then she started, and she was an absolutely captivating performer. We're not totally sure what she's been up to all these years since then, but we can vouch for the truth of the matter that Jewel puts on a great show. If you're looking for some good live music tonight, she may just be the best thing going on.
8 p.m. // The Moore // $48-58 plus fees

THE MUSIC OF THE NIGHT: We've never seen it before (we're slated to scope it out tomorow night, and we'll report back), but The Phantom of the Opera opened last night at the Paramount. It's one of the most classic, quintessential contemporary Broadway shows, and it's in town until Oct. 5, so if you miss it tonight, you should at least make a point of buying your tickets today.
7:30 p.m. (full schedule of showtimes) // The Paramount // $20-70
A NEW WAY OF LIFE: If science is your thing, then you should head out to Town Hall tonight for a talk about cancer, "what makes cancer cells thrive, what inhibits their growth, and conventional and alternative ways to slow and prevent cancer," presented by the author of Anti-Cancer: A New Way of Life. The book explores the author's experience with overcoming brain cancer. It's sure to be a moving, informative, inspiring insight into the science of defying odds.
8:30 p.m. // Town Hall // $5

I'm not really sure what that means. I can tell you, though, that 10 minutes after leaving the theater, you won't remember a single song. You may remember something about a boat and candles, and maybe an incredibly slowly 'crashing' chandelier, but that's about it.
Skip it.
