Cool Down Seattle-Style At Luna Park Cafe

"Bacon Salt, Milkshake, Mustache at Luna Park Cafe" -- a Seattlest cell phone photo.
In the hopes that wishful thinking will help extend the summer weather in Seattle, we want to share our recommendation for a quintessential Seattle way to cool off on those coming hot September days.
On one of the few very hot days this summer, sweating simply sitting in our living room, Seattlest devised a plan with our best friend to ease the summer heat. Our first idea was ice cream, but that was quickly scrapped when we realized everyone in Seattle was probably standing in line at the paltry few ice cream joints we have in this town. Luckily, reminded by an old Dick's cup crammed in the corner of our desk, a brilliant idea hit us: milkshakes. And no offense to Dick's, but not Dick's-style milkshakes. What we wanted were huge frosty silver containers of ice cream, milk and syrups...like the good old days.
The wheels in our brain started slowly turning, remembering that a cafe we pass by in West Seattle occasionally proclaims proudly and in neon to have "The Best Milkshakes in Seattle"--so it was off to the Luna Park Cafe. We chose a seat on the patio in the shade, where there was a lovely breeze. Our tattooed, pierced, and adorable waitress brought water as soon as we sat down and right away asked if we wanted to start with a cold drink. Coffee flavored and chocolate milkshakes were ordered and within a matter of minutes the frosty gigantic goodness was out to our table and being greedily devoured. The Luna Park Cafe doesn't lie in their neon advertising; while it was nothing fancy, it was doubtlessly the best milkshake we've ever had--in large part because it was exactly what was needed at that muggy moment.
Our new love affair with Luna Park continued when we noticed that included on each table was a bottle of Bacon Salt. We'd been incredibly curious about bacon salt since the moment it was mentioned to us, but had never gotten around to tasting it.. So, we may have literally gasped with joy when we spotted the small cylindrical bottle on the table. Sprinkled on some fat fresh-cut fries, it really was bacon-y and salty. It should go without saying that it was delicious.
So the next day it's sunny in Seattle, don't waste a minute, because in 30 it might be raining. Grab your best friend and head over to the Luna Park Cafe, get a patio seat, and share a milkshake and something that you can sprinkle Bacon Salt on. You won't regret it--and you won't feel like you're melting in the coming Northwest September heat wave.
