Hoping for a better week

Friday
The Seahawks dispatched with the Oakland Raiders 23-16 in the final preseason game. In recent years, preseason games have become little more than an exercise in injury avoidance, and the Hawks emerged relatively unscathed, although the receiving corps has taken a hit with losses of Engram and Obomanu for extended periods. The Hawks were 3-1 in preseason action andwill begin regular season play on Sunday as they visit the Buffalo Bills.

Earlier in the day, Howard Schultz revealed he dropped his lawsuit with the owners of the former Seattle Sonics, who have moved the team to Oklahoma City after Schultz sold the team to them. Former NFL/Husky QB and local sports media personality Hugh Millen summed up the move Monday: "If Howard Schultz thinks he can crawl off like a cockroach and do this on a holiday weekend, with a hurricane and all the rest happening, and that (dropping the suit) won't get noticed by the media, he's wrong. I noticed."

Saturday
Seattlest is really hard pressed to find a whole lot of positives from the Cougars' 39-13 collapse against Okla. State OR the Huskies' 44-10 throttling at the hands of rival Oregon. We had high hopes that the new season would bring some competitive play on the college gridiron. We were wrong.

Sunday
The Storm battled the Connecticut Sun in a game telecast nationally. Sue Bird and Swin Cash scored 40 points, but fell short 80-76. The Storm continue their road trip today as they meet the Dream in Atlanta. Gametime is 4 p.m.

Monday
Adrian Beltre hit for the cycle, going 5-5 and scoring five runs as the M's winning streak hit a season-long four games. "I still feel shaky," Beltre said afterward. "That's filthy." Feels good, though, doesn't it?

Adding insult to injury, Husky fans were treated with watching former coach Rick Neuheisel lead the UCLA Bruins to a 27-24 overtime victory against the 18th-ranked Vols.
