Blitzen Trapper had a fantastic set early this afternoon, and even though we didn't know how good the stuff from the album they're releasing later this month was going to be, we expected to have a blast at their show. We did have a blast, and apparently Blitzen Trapper is releasing a classic rock album on the 23rd that we're going to buy immediately.
After Blitzen Trapper we saw a half dozen or so alt-country bands that we were familiar with and some entirely new-to-us, who performed shows ranging from ok to kinda ok. Basically, everything we recommended yesterday fell into that range: ok to kinda ok, nothing really exciting. The show that really stood out, though, was something we hadn't highlighted on our little tear-out schedule because we'd never heard of him. Ain't that the way? Langhorne Slim puts on a great show; he rips up a guitar, he's funny, the girls say he's sweet. We worried that what sounds appealing on a big stage in front of an enthusiastic audience doesn't always translate into recorded tracks or smaller venues, but then we found this video and we know that this love is real:

Upon further review, Kim recommended this show in the comments of my 'Monday Best Bets' post, which illustrates two things: I don't pay enough attention to the comments, and Kim knows her shit.
Amen to that.
Langhorne Slim is sublime.
