More Dispatches from PAX
Saturday we made it back to PAX with the idea of spending the day in panel discussions. We of course ended up wandering the grounds taking everything in again (the people watching is nothing short of epic), playing more games in the exhibition hall, and only made it to a couple of panels before calling it a day.
The first panel we attended featured prominent members of female-oriented gaming communities, talking about how their communities operate, the place they hold in the industry, and of course, the changing roles of females in gaming. The Q&A revealed a lot of interest from the girls in the crowd in what they were doing, with plenty of them looking to dispel the image that the only kind of "gamer chick" out there is one either at their boyfriend's side or sensuously cradling a piece of gear.
Less academic and more funny was the Giant Bomb reunion panel, which could be summed up as a bunch of dudes just hanging out riffing off of one another. Sure, they talked about their game review site, the games some panelists work on, and at one point, a panelist's cat, but they touched on bigger issues as well. In between the jokes, they mentioned the ideas of integrity in reviews, how to get a foothold in the industry, and discussed the failings of the current ratings system. It was informative, even though that seemed secondary to overall entertainment.
But enough of that. After the jump, pics of people in video game related outfits!
