Bellevue Gets a Barrio

A while back, we mentioned that Trace Lofts on 12th Ave would soon be home to the unfortunately named "Mexican-inspired" restaurant Barrio. Well, don't worry Eastside, you're getting a ghetto too! Purple Cafe and Wine Bar owners Larry and Tabitha Kurofsky have announced that they'll be opening a second Barrio in downtown Bellevue sometime next year.

Agreed - Barrio just means neighborhood or district. In fact Barrio Norte in Buenos Aires is a reasonably nice neighborhood.

Oh no! Here we go again with the people freaking about the name! I agree, well said misstake. I grew up in a mostly hispanic part of Denver that was often referred to as "the barrio" and the name was used as a symbol of pride for those of us who lived there People in Seattle are just WAY too uptight.

I want that one taco truck on Rainier to clone itself and set up on 12th. THAT would be a good day.

    Well said, misstake.

It would be great to have some Purple-quality Mexican cuisine, I hope for the best!

Barrio doesn't mean "ghetto", no matter what unfortunate mental associations you may have. I just means neighborhood.

I hope the food is good!
