SEATTLEST HAPPY HOUR: What the hell else are you going to do tonight after work besides head down to Moe Bar and join your tweed-wearing Seattlest contributors as we do what comes naturally on a Monday: drinking ourselves into a stupor and making untoward advances on anything that moves. In exchange for hanging out with us, we'll regale you with stories of community development committee meetings, which prominent Seattle chef is faking his/her accent, and the criminal predilections of a certain notable neighborhood activist. It'll be a veritable hyper-local hootenanny!
5 p.m.-8 p.m. // Moe Bar, 925 E. Pike // free entry, $2 happy hour specials // 21+
LEFTY BACK SLAPPING: Self-congratulation never goes out of style as Jim Hightower and Susan DeMarco's new book Swim Against the Current: Even a Dead Fish Can Go with the Flow makes clear. Are you a local community organizer, fighting for affordable housing or access to health care? Do you feel like you don't get enough appreciation for all your hard work? Well, for only $25.95, you can read about how great Jim Hightower thinks your hard work is! So skip out on Seattlest and while away your Monday evening basking in the glory of one of the left's most popular columnists, along with every other DailyKos reader in the city packed into Elliott Bay Books' brick-lined basement.

UNEMPLOYED?: This one actually seems pretty cool, the only catch being that it takes place, alas, during work hours. But if by some chance you're free between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., you can head down to the UW campus to catch the first day of the World Boomerang Competition. Teams from 12 countries are fighting it out to claim the mantle of boomerang masters (current world champ is Germany). It appears that the main action is taking place on the lawns just south of 45th St. down by University Village, right across from the QFC.
