Police Chief Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

John Calkins, the police chief of Pacific, Wash., was arrested last night on suspicion of driving under the influence. Calkins was pulled over in Bonney Lake after a citizen called 911 to report a possible drunk driver. The chief claimed he couldn't take a roadside breathalyzer test because of a "medical condition involving his throat." We are familiar with his condition, we believe its scientific name is bullshit. To us, this sounds distinctly like an excuse only a fellow cop could get away with after being pulled over soused. Thin blue line, indeed.

What a bunch of horseshit. The police chief should not be treated like anything other then a criminal... he broke the law, and if it you or me in the same situation, we would be sitting in a jail cell.

It's no wonder the police get no respect. The police should have nothing short of the highest ethical standards, and be held to them. period.

I'd tend to agree with your snark about the "thin blue line" if he had been let go with just a warning, but the facts are that he was arrested, he did do the blood test, and it's all over the newspapers this morning so it's not as if anyone swept it under the rug.

I happen to know he had throat cancer and therefore has an open trach.

Seems like a blood test would have solved this question.
