All Aboard the White Sox (Griffey) Bandwagon
With the Mariners taking the rest of the summer off, Seattlest (along with some other local rag) is adopting the Chicago White Sox as our fake team for the rest of the season.
This became official with last week’s trade of Ken Griffey Jr (number 17?!?!). Griffey, who last played in a playoff game on October 5, 1997, is now only half a game back in the AL Central.
Plus the White Sox are totally backed by our 2008 BFF Barack Obama, who is probably a pretty big Cavs fan these days.
Here with what we can expect from our team is Seattlest Dan, the original White Sox fan: "You'll be wringing tears out of your wife-beater in a month."
Spoken like a fan whose team hasn’t won a championship in over two years.
Ultimately our October dream is a Sox vs. Cubs World Series, which would collapse under the weight of amazing story lines. Griffey vs. Lou Piniella, however, would brand a smile on our face. We will be at Safeco tonight cheering against the (newly) hated Minnesota Twins.
Go Go Sox (except on August 18, 19 and 20).
