A Store for the Boys' Bums
We've been doing our fair share of gushing over the new H&M store, but there's fashion doings to report closer to home (i.e., Capitol Hill), too.
Under4Men is the name of the new men's underwear store that's opened up in the Loveless building at the north end of Broadway (on Broadway East, as a matter of geographic fact). We were walking by so we popped in to confirm that it is just the kind of upscale boutique you'd expect to find in the Loveless building.
A very helpful clerk greeted us and insisted we feel the fabric of the Aussie Bum briefs, which have some kind of miracle bamboo fiber woven into them and are very, very soft to the touch. It's long been an open secret that, given the chance, men of all persuasions will go for soft underwear like a pitbull for a three-year-old dipped in butter. However, these briefs are also $40, so we're not gonna get one for every day of the week just yet.

My GOD that pitbull comment is over the top. I really love you guys sometimes.

No way is a guy spending $40 on underwear.

Save your $40. Those bamboo briefs are soft because they are rayon. I recently attended the FTC workshop on green claims for textiles and building materials. The invited experts were unanimous in their opinion that nearly all bamboo textiles and yarns available on the market are nothing more than rayon, or regenerated cellulose. For more, see the detailed coverage in my blog:

Rayon by any other name would feel as soft! MvB, more reporting on underwear, thank you.
