Weekend Music

Tonight, head to the Sunset for the shoegaze stylings of Film School.

There's also L.A. pop mainstay Adam Marsland at the Skylark

and local troubadour Rocky Votolato at Neumo's.

Tomorrow seems to be the day to travel for your music. You can stay close to home and hit up the Magnolia Summerfest, which actually starts today. Supposedly, Scotland Barr and the Slow Drags are playing the fest Saturday night (6 p.m.), though we can find no information on the official festival websites to confirm this.

So, if you're looking for a festival that actually has clearly scheduled events, there's the Powell Street Festival in Vancouver, featuring Shugo Tokumaru, a Japanese multi-multi-multi-instrumentalist making his Canadian debut at the festival. His third release Exit will be his first album to get proper distribution in the States. Stream Shugo's upcoming single "Parachute" here, or get a taste of the man live below.

Or head to Spokane Saturday night for Omaha dance-rockers The Faint at the Knitting Factory Concert House. Here they delineate why "The Geeks Were Right":

Sunday night, it's more shoegaze at the Sunset. This time, it's Edmonton band The Faunts.

You also have the opportunity to take your country-blues pick: Red Stick Ramblers at the Tractor

or Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons at the Triple Door
