I'm sorry but "over-produced irrelevance" seems rather strong a statement. Does the writer of this article even know anything about Timbaland? I've heard the new songs and I absolutely LOVE them. I don't think there's anything "over-produced" about it. Cornell has always loved his sounds -- let him have his sounds. This album seems that it will be CHOCK FULL of a VARIETY of sounds; I'm sure that's what Cornell wanted out of the collaboration and I think it's harsh to pass judgment in such as fashion as in this article. Did the writer hear any songs besides "Long Gone," anyway? It doesn't sound like it. Personally, my favorite is "Never Far Away." I would like for the writer of this article to critique that song. Actually, maybe he/she should wait for the album to come out in its entirety. Yes, that seems most logical. I like the song...maybe Middlemans just jealous because he didn't get a better security system--hey man, just kidding man, I don't even have a security system!!!!! Personally, I've listened to all his SG and early solo and AS...and I loved it. I'm sure I'll love this too, because there are two elements it has that every other one had: His voice and his lyrics. The guy just has great lyrics.

No, I'm pretty sure the 2nd wife is/was a PR person. Silver was artistic management, no? Why else would he, in his current status of artistic & cultural irrelevancy, appear on Extra in a 10 second clip of he and his family going to eat at some restaurant? Or the story that appeared about him getting a better security system on his house? I've just always been staggered, from Euphoria Morning on, by people who constantly defend his stuff when it just flat out sucks. A cover of Billie Jean? Come on.

Everyone is entitled to fans. However, sometimes fans get blinded. Not saying that this is the case-- to each their own, I just know that I have defended a few celebs I like even when they can't catch the ball.

To Middleman: does that mean that those who bash cornell are the ones with valid opinions, while those who actually like the new music and say so are just PR people employed by him? As far as I know, I don't work for him, but I happen to dig the new sound, and I'm glad other people do too. But it's also not the end of the world when someone happens to not like the new direction. It's just different tastes in music.

I was really skeptical, but now after hearing it, it's actually pretty good. I've only heard a few songs, but if you just forget for a second who he was, maybe have an open mind...

I liked this song when I first heard it, now after hearing it live a couple weeks ago, I love it. I love the melodies and harmonies and I think his voice sounds amazing on this and the other clips of new tracks I've heard. I can't wait to hear the entire album. And for the record, I also love Audioslave. I've been a fan of Cornell since I was 17, which is just about half of my life, and after all that time I've come to believe in his musical integrity, which is why I think he did do this collaboration for artistic reasons, trying something different that he wanted to try and has the freedom to do now. OK, a lot of people aren't going to like it. But that's true of anything an artist does. And in this case, I'm sure he knew the criticism he was opening himself up to, but he had the guts to do what he wanted anyway.

So, I've been listening to Cornell since the late 80's, and I find it refreshing that he has evolved and not continued to do the same thing year in and year out. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE my SG!! I am encouraged by the snippets that I've heard, and I've decided to hold out final judgement until I hear the album. I do like what I've heard so far, and it is very different from anything I've heard Cornell do before. And, the vids I've seen of some of this live sounds really cool too. My .02 worth.

I'm a big CC fan and while I contend this is a huge departure, NOBODY has heard the album in full so how can anyone say it sucks? I love the fact that he refuses to pigeonhole himself and his 'sound'....he's a musical artist.....I say, paint away Chris....this doesn't mean from now ON his music will be in this vein.....I can't WAIT to get SCREAM!!!!

Crossovers can be awesome. See: Herbie Hancock's Possibilities, an album I love, comprised entirely of collaborations. Maybe Hancock made that album partly for relevance and record sales, but I think he also made it out of a spirit of playfulness and exploration, and that's cool with me. Especially since he pulled it off.

I'm glad to see some folks defending Chris. And I'm all for him trying new things--I absolutely love Euphoria Morning and "Finally Forever" is the best wedding song that ever will be--but I'm dubious about anyone doing the crossover thing (no matter the genre being crossed to); is it for artistic reasons or relevance/record sales? And hey, I'll take gangsta rap or old-school rhymes over this new mild hybrid-style any day.

I really like his solo ventures and I listen to all his music...I really like this new song and I expect great things from the album. Like Ray and Wildatheart have said, it takes a lot of guts to explore yourself musically and to push your talent to the limit, I hope Chris Cornell continues to push his talent to see what his voice can really do! I agree with Ray54220. Takes far more balls to do something new than hang around in Seattle doing the same old same old. Good luck to him - hope it's a screaming mega-selling success. He damn well deserves it after all the work he's put in over the years. Btw I bet there will be a load more rockers copying him and going cross-genre now. We've already got a cross-genre Alicia Keys/Jack White collab for the new James Bond title song....

So its not as "rocked out" as we are normally acustomed to...that doesn't make it bad. Some of the new tracks off of "Scream" are debuting on the Projekt Revolution Tour and receiving possitive feedback. I'm a huge fan of the old stuff, too. One has to look at this project with an open mind and not be bias to it having a hip-hop vibe.

I think I just found my new favorite website. I love Ryan Secrest. Especially when his interstitial pops up during the song 6 times. Also, Chris Cornell is a total doofus. I never thought I'd use that term after I put it to rest in the 5th Grade, but after Audio Slave I picked up the dictionary, and there it was: his name under "Doofus"
