Beware the Low-Flying Planes—Blue Angels in Town

The Seattle Times is reporting that the Blue Angels have arrived. Boy howdy! We're thanking our lucky stars that we're heading to Portland for the weekend and will be able to avoid the traffic and insanity of Sea Fair. But, if you're staying in town, you may want to plan ahead for the impending air show. It'll be our tax dollars at work this weekend, showing off how close to bridges the U.S. military can fly without crashing. Check the Times for a full schedule of bridge closures, so you can plan your jaunts to the Eastside accordingly.

last i checked, the blue angels pilots' sexual orientation was none of anyone's business. don't ask, don't tell. but damn, i know a thousand gay men who would be happy to think of those hot uniform-wearing men as part of the family.

  • They do fly pretty close together...

  • partyfernandez

    no, i meant gay.

You guys are CRAZY! SeaFair is the most enjoyable weekend this town gets. So many events, gatherings and cook outs. I understand a lot of people just want to stay home alone and read a book, the rest of us like to soak up the sun and socialize.

The Blue Angels are badass. Best pilots in world and it’s a pretty big deal to be the best in the world at anything. I will be on the log boom, enjoying a cold beverage while they fly over. If you can't find any enjoyment in that then you need to relax a bit.

Come out to the log boom. Enjoy your city and one of the largest events we have…

  • Last year I saw the harrier jet. That was friggin' awesome.

Yeah, we can all talk about the waste (which it is) but there's also a need to spend cash on festivals to make the masses happier.

I just think there are better ways to save funds and the environment than fighting the Blue Angels. Even though, from personal experience, those fly-boys are cocky - Maverick style.

I know there are plenty of folks who feel differently--but I for one HATE the Blue Angeles with a burning passion. And my animals hate them even more -- I can't imagine how loud they must be for them with their super sensitive hearing.

I was born and raised in Seattle, the old Seattle even, and I still to this day do not get or enjoy Seafair. Never have, never will.

"i honestly don't know a single person who enjoys the blue angels"

Gotta think that's just the circles you travel in. And I assume you don't have children.

Head out to the various viewing points during a show and you'll see tens of thousands of people. And they're not hydroplane fans.

FWIW, I think the Blue Angels are awesome, and I think the technology of supersonic jets is way cool (and so do many of my friends). It's a nice free show for those unable to visit aviation events elsewhere.

It also provides a connection to our armed forces -- I think if us American citizens were each more personally involved with our soldiers, we'd be more upset about them going to war. I'll take a few flyovers for peace and entertainment any day.

Head back to your party, fernandez, don't crash ours.

P.S. I think you meant 'lame', not 'gay'.

i used to work with a few people at the UW who loved the blue angels. i think there's still some love for them somewhere. not with me, but somewhere. i agree, though @partyfernandez. total waste of fuel.

  • partyfernandez

i honestly don't know a single person who enjoys the blue angels. is there no way to tell the seafair/seattle people "it's 2008. if i wanna see fancy planes fly, i can pop in my 'broken arrow' DVD"?

we're a city that just approved a $.20/bag fee at grocery stores (which i LOVE), so can't we also stop COMPLETELY unnecassary jet fuel fumes from being dumped into the air?

sure, i love "tradition" and all that shit as much as the next guy, but the blue angels are gay.
