Seattlest Picks for the Capitol Hill Block Party

One word, with regards to Seattlest and the Capitol Hill Block Party: stoked! There are so many music options that we (that would be Katelyn and Audrey) decided to give you a couple ways to plan each day of this year's block party. Of course, feel free to mix and match acts as you see fit.

Friday: Catch Common Market (4:30) and U.S.E. (5:30) at the main stage, then skip over to King Cobra for the second half of Truckasaurus (6:00). Take a dinner break (may we suggest eating something protein-heavy?), then get yerself to Neumo's for Thee Emergency at 7:45. After that, we suggest Das Llamas (it's their last set...THEIR LAST ONE!) at 9:45 at the Cha Cha. To round out the night, buy yourself a fancy rum drink at Havana and party until the wee hours with DJ Curtis.

Or: Show up early at Neumo's for the two-pronged rock attack of Black Eyes and Neckties (4:00) and Head Like a Kite (5:15). Chill out for a bit near the main stage for the electro-pop of Menomena (6:30) while deciding if you should stick around for Girl Talk's mashup of every great track of the past twenty years (7:45) or get real mellow at the Vera Stage with the delicate and quirky pop of PWRFL Power (7:45). Then it's either more songs about girls at the Vera Stage with Say Hi (9:00) or lo-fi DIY two-man freak-folk care of The Dodos at Neumo's (9:00). After that, you can join the 80s dance party featuring Natalie Portman's Shaved Head (10:15) before closing out the night with faux-Afrobeat/Paul Simon-flavored indie of Vampire Weekend (10:45). Sure, their fans may be douchey in closed quarters, but they should be much more easily tolerated on a warm summer night.

Picks for Saturday after the jump.

On Saturday, start off with the Cave Singers at 3:15 at the main stage. Don't stay too late at the Cave Singers' set though, because The Physics are playing at the Vera Stage at 4:15. At 6:00 is Sleepy Eyes of Death at King Cobra. Take a break: still breathing, and deeply? Good, because Wild Orchid Children are happening at 9:45 at the Cha Cha. After that, you should of course be at Havana again. Party like a rock star, so delirious.

Or: Show up at 2:00 for Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground on the main stage, followed by Loveless darlings New Faces (3:00) at the King Cobra stage. Grab a late lunch before those cutesy songs from Juno care of Kimya Dawson (4:30) at the main stage. Then it's time for ethereal harmonies at the main stage from Fleet Foxes (6:00). Head back to the King Cobra stage to catch a little of Voyager One's psychedelic noise (7:15), then a tad of synth-heavy Chromeo at the main stage (7:30), before some well-crafted pop from Throw Me the Statue (7:45). Back to the King Cobra stage to dance with Velella Velella (8:30) and get buckwild with the Feral Children (9:45). Try to finagle your way into Neumo's for the "Super Secret Special Guests" (10:30), or listen to DeVotchKa's haunting vocals float over Pike Street from the main stage (10:30).

Note before you go: It looks like things are a little more organized this year than in years past--according to the Stranger guide, if you're on will call or a guestlist, you should enter the event at the entrance closer to Broadway, while those with tickets (or looking to purchase tickets) can enter at either of the Broadway/Pike or 11th Ave/Pike entrances.
