Red Sox Nation has left Seattle, taking with it their brand new hats and cheers of "Manny, I fawkin' love you, now hit a homah' you fawkin' queeah [Throws up on self. Passes out.]." And that was Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Hate them or really hate them, they are on top of the sports world and enjoying every minute of it.

However, what is it like when Mariner Nation invades some poor sucker's home field? Seattlest sent us to Kansas City's Kaufman Stadium, with two rental cars full of Mariner faithful, to get under the skin of those BBQ eatin'-fountain lovers.

Whereas Red Sox fans suck up seats close to the action, our WaMu and Starbucks stock have forced us into the $9 seats. The same tickets are $22 at Safeco.

Our stomachs were full of Arthur Bryant's, we were ready to cheer for the Mariners bright future, and for one night make the Truman Sports Complex Safeco Field Midwest.

Sadly, we didn't have much reason to cheer as Adam Jones went one for three, and George Sherrill did not make an appearance, as the Orioles beat the Royals 4-1.

We did spot some Royals fans in Gil Meche jerseys, and thought about teasing them. Instead we chose to passive-aggressively make comments under our breath about fans not recycling their plastic non-microbrew beer bottles. When Garth Brooks appeared on the GIANT HD scoreboard to sing with the fans during the seventh-inning stretch, we cracked a few jokes and made ourselves giggle.

The game ended, and we headed out on Interstate 70 with the knowledge that the fans in section 432 now know that Mariner Nation is a small wise-cracking force to be dealt with…miles from home plate.
