Can't Miss It: Monday

HAPPY HOUR!: The Seattlest crew is clambering out of our darkened basements, adjusting our sun-starved eyes to the light of day, and exposing ourselves to our readers by showing up to the first ever Seattlest happy hour at Moe Bar, tonight from five to eight. Come, meet (and get hit on) by your favorite Seattlest contributor, share your feelings with us about how much you hate our reviews, or just plain use it as an excuse to wear tweed (you know you love it!) while you suck down $2 pints and wells from Moe Bar's happy hour menu.

5–8 p.m. // Moe Bar, 925 E. Pike St. // no cover, $2 happy hour specials // 21+

Moe Bar, Seattlest's new drinking homeLAURYN WHO?: Wyclef Jean emerged as the most talented and prolific former Fugee. The ad hoc reunion Dave Chappelle arranged for his Block Party movie didn't translate into a reunion tour or new Fugees record, due, apparently, to Lauryn Hill's intransigence, but Jean's back with a new album, Carnival Vol. II: Memoirs of an Immigrant that he brings to the Showbox at the Market tonight, and as of 9 a.m., tickets are still available.

8 p.m. // Showbox/Market, First & Pike // tickets $40 online or the Showbox box office // 21+

MASTERPIECE THEATRE: It's long been maintained that the heyday of cinema was the late 1950s and early 1960s, at least in the arch world of cinephiles, when the titans of post-war European film were importing their masterpieces the U.S. Bergman and Antonioni, Truffaut and Godard, were transformative experiences for an entire generation of American film makers and critics, for better or for worse. But the film that was perhaps the most totemic was, strangely, by the otherwise relatively obscure French director Alain Resnais: Last Year at Marienbad. Truth be told, it's not Resnais's best film (that's undoubtedly Hiroshima Mon Amour, written by the great novelist Marguerite Duras), but somehow Marienbad's arch formalism and off-kilter style pushed the European avant-garde into the American mind in a way that no one else did.

8 p.m. // SIFF Cinema, 321 Mercer St. // $10 door

  • Katelyn
