American Coupland in action!

Yeah, and Nike isn't from Beaverton. Those boring white shoes are from boring white Beaverton, dammit.

Fair enough--Intel isn't from Oregon, but it does have at least three campuses around Portland, the most prominent tech company in town with the largest presence insofar as I know.

"cities that gave the world the cultural and economic titans of Starbucks and Nike, Microsoft and Intel..."

Intel? Wow, did you ride all the way to California?

I look forward to the rest of this series. I rode this year - one day - my 3rd time. The 1st was in the late 80s.

What struck me this time was how friendly the folk were Centralia (and surrounding area). The 1st ride I did, there were tacks in the road, just to stick it to us.

This time, folks had misting stations set up (it was in the high 80s there), families and children in lawn chairs sat roadside and waved. I really felt welcome.

What a difference 20 years makes. Of course, the downside of 20 more years is hauling a 53 year old body through the course, but I made it exactly on my planned one day schedule.

It's a great event, and I'd encourage everyone to do it once.
