Man Beaten While Tending to Traffic Circle Dies

"Traffic Circle" courtesy of Seattlest Flickr User Dustin DeKoekkoek

Yesterday Seattlest reported on the beating of a man tending to his neighborhood traffic circle. And it is with great sadness and a general feeling of What the Fuck? that we report that the victim in this senseless beating, James Paroline has died from his injuries.

Paroline, a 60-year-old resident of Rainier Beach was mortally wounded on Wednesday after he was punched by an unknown assailant while watering a garden he'd planted at a neighborhood traffic circle. Paroline had been in a coma since a young man (described as a 5' 10" African-American male in his 20s, weighing about 160 pounds) punched him in the face after a traffic confrontation. Paroline fell to the concrete unconscious and never regained consciousness; he died at 9:20 p.m. last night, according to a spokesperson for Harborview Medical Center. So, we'd like to edit James' original plea: "Aside to the tough guy murderer: turn yourself in jerkface."

Death came defending traffic circle rather than in war.Traffic on roads may consist of pedestrians, ridden or herded animals, vehicles, streetcars and other conveyances, either singly or together.

uh, troyjmorris, an elder man doesn't have the authority to block a public thoroughfare. did he deserve to get punched and die because of it? no. but he also could have made the decision not to put himself in a situation where there'd be an altercation - i.e. block the road, argue with dumbass girls and, lastly, not squirt them with the hose.

and, low traffic neighborhood or not, you never know when a kid is going to dart out into the street thinking nobody will be driving on the left side of the road. even at 5 mph being hit by two tons of steel and plastic when you're little can cause a lot of injury. the stupid thing is driving on the wrong side of the road which is what you seem to be advocating here.

the point is, we are all in this together and we need to think about the consequences of our actions. be you a gardener, motorist or face punching, road raged douche bag.

  • There's going to be a vigil at the traffic circle in question tonight at 7:00.

  • It's a fucking neighborhood.

If you're stupid enough to hit a kid a fucking round about, you don't deserve to drive.

That's the stupidest argument I have ever heard. It's a low traffic neighborhood. He didn't block the entire road. It was an elder man's simple request to go the other way, with no more real danger, for perhaps 10 minutes

  • Weazul

this situation is terrible no doubt, but just for imagine how different if it had been if they had gone around the round about in the wrong direction and say hit a kid.

nobody was right in the situation, certainly not the asshole who punched him, but also not the old man who remember blocked traffic because he didn't want a hose run over. shitty thing to die for.

  • Well, James, going left around a traffic circle is illegal.

I made the same comment as Eco Geek. Trying to make his neighborhood a bit prettier. This is his thanks.

And the picture in the PI, you can see the pool of blood. That was no sucker punch.

  • Eco Geek

When you look at the picture of the intersection in the PI you can see it is just a typical neighborhood street.

Even if he was slowing people down, they could choose to jog a "whole" street over. It's not like you should be expecting a fast trip when driving on the neighborhood streets with the traffic circles, go find an arterial.

Plus the guy was just trying to add a sense of beauty and community to the neighborhood. Real gut punch of a story.

  • Let me say up front: This guy did not deserve to be punched, much less killed.

But let me also say: In the end, he died because he didn't want people to run over a garden hose.

Someone else became a murderer because someone else wanted to move some traffic cones rather than detour the other way around a traffic circle.

The absurdity makes it all the more tragic.

    I hope karma is real.

    More than ever before.

  • What a small penised young man.

I hope he was 5 minutes late to the doctor and they diagnosed him with a failed liver but because he was late the liver went to a chimpanzee named Bobo.

  • herbisara

I can't even believe he died. Jesus, that is so awful and sad. All because of a little traffic hold-up.

Please, please, please let them find the guy who killed him.

  • Katelyn

    This is so fucked up.
