Electro-Pop: Matmos released their new record, Supreme Balloon, to acclaim back on May 6. The Baltimore-based pop/electronica duo have moved away from the conceptual electronic compositions of their earlier work and deliver a record of "cosmic pop" deliciousness. Check out the song "Rainbow Flag" [mp3] here, and check out the band down at the Triple Door tonight.
8 p.m. // 216 Union St. // $20 (+ don't forget about the Triple Door's seating policy)
Guilty Pleasures: Beck got himself a big old Arts Section article in yesterday's NY Times, for exactly what reason we're not sure, 'cause it's been a while since Beck was, well, relevant. That said, the odd-ball LA troubadour turned Scientological odd-ball upstaged by his own puppets is back with a new record, Modern Guilt. We don't know if he'll ever manage to approach the genius of Odelay again, but this time around he's enlisted wunderkind Danger Mouse to produce, so it's worth a listen, and that's what Nectar out in Fremont is offering for free during happy hour tonight.
5-7 p.m. // 412 N 36th St. // free // 21+
American Idyll: Tony Kushner's Angels in America is, despite the griping of plenty of critics, the masterpiece of American theatre for the last 30 years at least. Epic and intimate, Kushner's two-part play cycle killed gay theatre of the 1980s and expanded the boundaries of queer culture at the same time that it struck a blow against the reigning vision of the 1980s as an era of American renewal, with Ronald Reagan's "shining city on the hill." Kushner's obsession was with what was rotten in the State, and Angels has stood the test of time as a powerful and relevant work of theatre. ReAct stages a reading of Part 1: Millennium Approaches tonight at the Ethnic Cultural Theatre.
7 p.m. // 3940 Brooklyn Ave. NE // $8 door (reservations encouraged)

Tuesdays are Muppet Days
