I went on this hike this past 4th of July and it was a little more difficult then expected. Avalanche/rock slide debris must be circumvented in many areas. The bridge is completely washed out, requiring some creative river crossing including a large tree. Near the town the road is completely washed out and you must ford a small offshoot of the stream. Once you are two Monte Cristo there is still a LOT of snow on the ground (several feet in the shady places, and none in the open fields). There were a lot (20 maybe) of windfalls over the trail that had to be navigated as well. All the info I found suggested the hike was an easy 4 hours round trip, but with the poor trail condition it took us nearly twice that long. We also moved a bit slower to stop and take photos. The trails past Monte Cristo, I can not speak of personally, but I imagine that they are not in any better shape, and that should be kept in mind when planning. All that being said it was still a fun hike with some great views! Though not as family friendly as it once was. Thanks for the posting! Keep the hike related stuff coming :)

I belive you do. It seems like all the good, higher altitude hikes require some sort of fee. Especially since this is in the Henry M. Jackson Wilderness area.

Does anyone know if you need a pass of any sort to park at the gate?
