H&M Arrives in Seattle--Finally, and Only Sort Of

According to Google Analytics, any day we can mention the words H&M and Seattle in a post is a very good day. So we were thrilled to get a press release heralding the Swedish stores arrival ("FINALLY," it said in caps) in Seattle. Except it's not really in Seattle. The first H&M store in the area will open on July 25th at Southcenter Mall. As much as we H&M cravers want to will it to be so, Southcenter is not in Seattle.

H&M's first stores in Seattle proper will be opening at a yet-to-be-announced date this fall. And yes, for those of you paying attention, that's stores -- plural. H&M will be coming not only to the long-anticipated University Village location, but also another store somewhere on Pike Street on Capitol Hill [UPDATE: where Kenneth Cole used to be downtown]. That high-pitched sound you hear? A hundred hipster girls and guys shrieking with delight.

Until this fall, a 20-minute drive to Southcenter will have to satisfy your cravings for low cost, trendy Swedish fashion. Considering that, until then, the closest H&M store involves a border crossing, a Southcenter location within the month sounds great.

You'll be seeing a lot more of these soon. "H&M Bag" from Flickr contributor sterretj85

As excited as I am for this I cannot bring myself to go to Southcenter for it. I will wait until fall!

there are already ads up in the windows (boasting their cheap prices and offering jobs) at the future store location downtown. it's at the corner of 6th and pike, not on the hill.

... in the space where Kenneth Cole used to be.

Thank you H&M, for tearing down the UW A&F store and taking over Kenneth Cole.

This is akin to the tearing down of the Berlin Wall.

I recently ran into a person who was telling me that their girlfriend, who is unable to secure legal work in the U.S. makes a very solid living buying H&M goods and selling them on overseas Craigslist sites. That was my very first introduction to even the store's existence, and now it's some big deal in Seattle. Who knew...

You know, I never heard of these folks until the post months ago. Ever since then, I love everything Swedish.

Also, I used to work at the BR in the Southcenter Mall. I also will be waiting until Fall, like Jesse.

Somehow that seems relevant.

SQUEEEEEE! Best reason to stick with my current job in Burien, baby. I was just in NYC and wandered through the 34th St. H&M (at-- check it-- 10 p.m. on a Friday night). There is a dreamy $25 emerald green slippery halter top that evokes Keira Knightley's dress in "Atonement". If I wear that, will I score James McAvoy?

Most of the compliments I get on outfits / accessories are on things I bought at H&M back east. CANNOT wait.
