Tim McGraw Takes on Drunk Fan at Concert

Tuesday night, country super star Tim McGraw played a show at the Gorge's ugly step-sister, Auburn's White River Amphitheater. By all accounts, the show was business as usual and all yee-haws until McGraw spotted a man in the front row harassing a female fan. Mid-instrumental break in one of his many hits, the singer had obvioulsy had enough of this "fan" and called for security to kick the guy out. When security didn't respond fast enough, McGraw took the situation into his own hands, trying to drag the man out of the audience and onto the stage. By the looks of it, the harasser had at least a hundred pounds on the country super-star, who was poured into slim-fitting Wrangler jeans, so McGraw was unsuccessful in single-handedly nabbing the jackass.

After the rowdy fan was pulled onstage by security, the scuffle continued, leading the multi-platinum artist to wind up his fist menacingly before deciding not to throw a punch. The YouTube video of the incident has been making the rounds all over--first debuting on TMZ, making the gossip blog rounds and ultimately ending up on last evening's local newscasts.

While everyone is touting the chivalrous nature of McGraw's act, we couldn't help but wonder if the goodness of that act, and the man, is lessened by the song he was singing during and after the incident. "Indian Outlaw" has to be one of the most insulting songs of the past 50 years—and it's really shocking to us that McGraw still plays it at concerts. So we say cheers to Tim McGraw for coming to the aid of a fan and realizing violence against women isn't acceptable; but it's time he had a 21st century understanding about racism, too. And now, the video:

Wow, that had the potential to turn into a Hopscotch Boys show there for a second.

The song wasn't offensive enough though.

If it was a Hopscotch Boys show, you know I would be there in the front row basking in the offense.

Why the hate for White River Amphiteatre? The surrounding area may not be idyllic, but sitting on the lawn on a nice night with Mount Rainier looming? And not having to drive a couple of hours to and from the middle of nowhere?

Not a bad alternative.

I love the White River Amphitheatre, but only because Journey is playing there in the fall.
